WatchID Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 3, 2026
WatchID is operated by HOROVIEW SAS, registered under SIREN 909 354 110, with its registered office at 11 bis rue Arsène Houssaye, 75008 Paris, France (“WatchID”, “we”, “us”).
This policy explains how we process personal data when you use the WatchID mobile application, website, and related services.
1. Data we collect
Account information
We may collect your email address, account identifier, display name, sign-in provider, and favorite watch brands.
Watch scans and user content
We process the watch images you submit, identification results, scan history, and related metadata. If you enable Public Scans, eligible images and results may appear in Explore with your account identifier. We also process reports and blocks you submit.
Scan usage
We keep a record of each scan request (time, outcome, whether a free scan or a subscription was used, and a technical retry key) to enforce the free-scan limit, verify subscriptions, apply rate limits, and diagnose failures. Deleting a scan from your history does not delete this usage record; it is removed when your account is deleted.
Subscription information
We receive subscription product, entitlement, purchase, renewal, restoration, and expiration status from Apple and our subscription providers. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
Technical and usage data
We may collect app version, device and operating-system information, IP address, crash reports, diagnostic events, and feature interactions. WatchID does not request App Tracking Transparency permission, does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
2. How we use data
We use personal data to:
- create and secure your account;
- process images and provide watch-identification results;
- save and display your scan history;
- operate Explore and your public-sharing preferences;
- manage free-scan limits, subscriptions, and purchase restoration;
- detect abuse, moderate public content, and investigate reports;
- provide support and respond to professional-service enquiries;
- diagnose failures and improve reliability, safety, and performance;
- comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
3. Legal bases
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on:
- performance of a contract to provide the service and manage your account;
- consent for optional public sharing and notifications where required;
- legitimate interests in security, fraud prevention, support, analytics, and service improvement;
- compliance with legal obligations.
You may withdraw consent for optional processing at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing already performed lawfully.
4. Public scans and moderation
Public sharing is off by default. If you enable it, selected watch images and identification details may be visible to signed-in users in Explore. Public images are checked for inappropriate content and may be reviewed after a report.
You can disable Public Scans in the app. Other users may report public scans or block contributors. We may restrict, hide, or remove content that violates our rules or applicable law.
Do not upload images containing people, private documents, location details, or other personal information you do not want processed or made public.
5. Service providers
We use service providers that process data on our behalf, including:
- Supabase for authentication, databases, file storage, and backend functions;
- WatchID and HOROVIEW infrastructure for identification and market-related results;
- OpenAI for automated safety checks on images submitted for public sharing;
- Apple for sign-in, purchases, subscription billing, and App Store services;
- RevenueCat for subscription-entitlement management;
- Superwall for paywall presentation and subscription-flow analytics;
- Sentry for crash reporting and diagnostics;
- Expo for app updates and build-related services;
- Discord for operational moderation alerts concerning reported public content.
These providers process data under their own terms and privacy commitments. Data may be processed in countries outside your own, subject to appropriate safeguards where required.
Routine private watch scans are not sent to Discord in release builds.
6. Data retention
We retain account information and scan history while your account remains active or as needed to provide the service. You may delete individual scans and may request account deletion directly in the app.
When an account is deleted, we delete or de-identify associated account data and stored scan images, subject to limited retention required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and backup cycles. Subscription transaction records may remain with Apple and our billing providers under their retention requirements.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority.
You can:
- edit profile information in the app;
- control Public Scans in profile settings;
- delete individual scans;
- delete your account in the app;
- manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple account settings.
To exercise another privacy right, or to request account deletion by email, contact us at christophe@horoview.com. Account deletion instructions are also published at https://www.watchid.app/delete-account.
8. Security
We use access controls, authenticated backend requests, restricted storage, and other technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
9. Children
WatchID is not directed to children under 13. If local law requires a higher minimum age to consent to data processing, a parent or guardian must authorize use of the service. Contact us if you believe a child provided personal data without appropriate authorization.
10. Changes
We may update this policy to reflect product, legal, or operational changes. We will post the revised policy with a new effective date and provide additional notice where required.
